Richard specialises in small things, particularly inlaid boxes from Australian timbers. He also makes bowls, pens, and other small pieces. Richard originally worked in glass - then pewter, and only recently turned to wood. He became fascinated with the beauty of Australian timbers and looks to a simple elegance of design that reveals the timber. He works mainly with Australian grown wood, usually rescued from the gardens of friends. Richard now works full-time in wood, making individually turned and crafted pieces. He is working towards incorporating some pewter in his bowls - a fairly long-term project. His work is represented in galleries, including Moorabbin Art Gallery, Sculptor's Workshop, Moonambel Craft Gallery, and others. He is a member of the Victorian Woodworkers' Association, the Peninsula Woodturners Guild, and the St Kilda Arts & Crafts Association.
