WOODWORKS 2005
BUILDING ON SUCCESS, Woodworks is an annual event that showcases the best in fine woodwork and contemporary wood art. Its exhibitors range from graduates fresh out of college to those at the peak of their careers.
This exhibition was developed by the Victorian
Woodworkers Association (VWA) in partnership
with related trade, industry and educational sectors. Its inaugural staging was opened by the Director of Arts Victoria, Penny Hutchinson,
in December 2004 at the newly refurbished
Meatmarket Arts Centre.
Professional promotion ensured wide media
exposure and the quality of exhibits. The 2004 exhibition was well received: 2,300 visitors attended to view the 120 exhibits of which 22 were sold. A full critique was published in the March 2005 issue of the Australian Wood Review.
WOODWORKS 2005 will be staged in the grandeur of the main hall of the Meatmarket Arts Centre, and will be promoted and marketed as a premier cultural event, building on the success of last year.
“The difference between the mass
produced object, and the piece from the
designer maker, is pleasure for the buyer
and satisfaction for the maker.”
Jane La Scala, VWA Member

The Association
The Victorian Woodworkers Association (VWA), founded in 1979, is an affilliation of 220 leading designer/makers and wood artists in Australia. Its mission is to promote fine woodwork, to develop its markets, to foster excellence in its production and design, and to support fine woodworking as a viable career.
The VWA also manages the Wood Design Centre. This studio and workshop has incubated the careers of many distinguished designers, makers and artists in wood.
VWA has achieved significant international presence through its website, Woodlink, at www.vwa.org.au |
