The Best Wild Woods in Australia
A unique offering of rare woods from the deserts and forests of Australia
A great range of rare and uncommon Australian species . Look here for a short list, but up to 200 different species are available - some figured and others as burled slabs with bark removed.
Offered are squares in the following sizes:
1/2 inch (13mm)
3/4 inch (19mm)
1 inch (25mm)
3/2 inch (38mm)
2 inch (50mm)
Tool handles, netsuke carvings, inlays, bobbins, pens, canes, pool cues, musical instruments and bows. Some timbers are also available as boards, slabs or turning discs. All wood ends are waxed, bark removed, but minor (natural) features may remain.
Yes, many are expensive! Their costs reflect the small tree size, twisted stems, rarity and isolation, our high costs in finding, recovering and cutting losses. Many desert species have very high densities and hardnesses exceeding that of Lignum vitae! But they are also very fine grained, colourful, stable and have naturally low moisture contents. Some are aromatic.
Most pieces have striking colours and include contrasting coloured sapwood. A good range of rare rainforest species is also available.
NEW Mixed Packs are suggested for pens (5/8" - 3/4" x 5") or for tool and knife handles. From $100 plus shipping.
Medium Pack: 3/4" x 1" squares 6" x 12" long, mixed, colourful species selected from a range of rare and uncommon woods. US$100 + US$30 economy air delivery. |
