Create with a Crate Entry & Guidelines

IMPORTANT DATES – CREATE WITH A CRATE 2006

  Closing date for entry :   Monday 2 October 2006

  1. Delivery of entries: Wednesday 18 October 9.00am – 6.00pm
    Deliver to The Melbourne Exhibition Centre
    2 Clarendon Street, Southbank
    Entry via Normanby Rd, Melways 1C B6
  2. Exhibition dates: Friday 20 ­ Sunday 22 October
  3. Opening ceremony: Friday 20 October
  4. Collection of exhibits: Sunday 22 October after the closing of
    the exhibition at 6.00pm
  5. Photography: Exhibitors are encouraged to photograph the process of the making
    of their piece for publication
  6. Crate Collection: Present Entry Form for endorsement and payment of $20 fee when picking up your Crate at Waste Converters Recycling. Entry Forms are then completed and returned to the VWA as below

    Advice, tools and assistance with dismantling the pallets can be arranged. This is especially applicable for school groups that may not have the appropriate equipment necessary to quickly and efficiently dismantle the pallets. The contestants will be responsible for transporting and drying their crate / pallet timber.

Guidelines & Awards

  • Part of LIVING WITH WOOD 2006 at the TIMBER AND WORKING WITH WOOD SHOW Melbourne Exhibition Centre, 2 Clarendon Street Southbank Melbourne, Friday 20 – Sunday 22 October 2006
  • CREATE WITH A CRATE 2006 Exhibition and Awards focuses on the recycling of exotic timbers such as Oak and Elm. The exhibition is a partnership between the Victorian Woodworkers Association and Waste Converters Recycling. It aims to create awareness of the valuable resources that go into landfill each year (in Victoria alone, over 500,000 tons of timber waste) and highlight the potential for timber re-use and recycling

  • INSURANCE
    Every care will be taken by the VWA but no responsibility can be accepted for damage, loss or theft of an exhibit. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to arrange insurance cover
  • PUBLICITY AND DOCUMENTATION
    Exhibitors are encouraged to provide high quality images of their entries in either tiff or jpeg format of 300dpi on CD or as an email attachment for inclusion in the marketing promotions and media releases. The VWA is not able to offer a separate photography service for exhibitors due the exhibition constraints
 

 

ELEGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Open to all woodworkers, amateur to professional members of VWA and non-members 
  • A piece of furniture, an artwork, a musical instrument or a small object created from one industrial recycled timber crate supplied by Waste Converters Recycling
  • A maximum of 10% of the total amount of wood in the entry to be other than the crate 
  • Entry is the maker's own original work 
  • Entry fee $20.00 payable Waste Converters Recycling on collection of crate/pallet contributes to the materials cost, entry to the TWWS, and the publicity of the event

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • The timber in the entry will be provided by Waste Converters Recycling Each pallet contains (all dimensions are approx in mm)
    2 pieces of Elm or other hardwood 1670x90x90
    2 pieces of Oak or other hardwood   167x120x50
    8 pieces of Pine       1140x135x35
    10 Coach Bolts       160x10dia
  • All entries will be considered for the Awards Entries for sale must have their price listed on the Entry Form including GST (if applicable)
  • A 25% commission will be payable to the VWA for any exhibits sold during the Show.
  • A fee of $25 will be charged on “Not for Sale ” exhibits Entries must consist primarily of the crate/pallet provided, with any other materials be secondary
  • The completed Entry Form is endorsed for payment by Waste Converters and received by VWA by close of entries Monday 5.00pm 2 nd October 2006 either by mail or by email (see below).
  • Late entries will not be excepted VWA reserves the right to photograph exhibits for promotional purposes and to publish or display these with the appropriate credit provided
  • VWA reserves the right to exclude entries from the Exhibition and Award if they do not
  • Meet the Criteria
  • Cannot be accommodated due to exhibition size constraints and subject to selection
  • Have an incomplete Entry Form or unpaid fee
  • VWA will convene a jury of peers and industry representatives to judge the Awards, except for the Public Choice Award.
  • The judges' decisions will be final and not open for discussion.
  • Awards will be announced at a Ceremony on Friday 20 October 6.15pm at the TWWS.
  • The Public Choice Award will be announced in the November issue of the VWA Newsletter.
